Lumineuse

is a solo school project. It is a platformer with a unique mechanic where you need to use your missing hearts to latch onto things. Balance your life total as you ascend!

Features and how the unique mechanic allows puzzles

While having all your hearts is great for obvious reasons (not dying), it does not allow you to progress in the level. The player sometimes needs to sacrifice a part of his health to move on.

This mechanic has allowed me to create a wide range of puzzles and interactions. It can protect the player from hazards, be used as a shield against enemies, and be used as an object mover, amongst other things.

I added simple enemies to the game. They track you on the X or Y axis, sometimes both. They’re easily recognizable once you identified their pattern and it allows the players  to strategize their play around a particular section.

This project is my first try at 2D and forced my to think more extensively about puzzles and difficulty
